RIVER OF SECRETS

Its velvety nights seethed with pirates. Its waterfront districts were a colorful riot of lawlessness, from the teeming brothels, dance halls and saloons to the professional thieves and con men prowling unfriendly alleys. It saw gunfire, siege and starvation during wartime, and its muddy belly still holds the sad remains of countless ships sunk in its often treacherous waters.
