THE BOAT THAT CHANGED THE WORLD

I could see our driver, lips set in a thin line. The engine screamed as he alternately throttled up and dialed back, deftly maneuvering the boat across the menacing channel. Some of my companions screwed their eyes shut, knuckles white as they grasped whatever handhold was nearby. But the boat could handle the angry sea. It was, after all, a panga.

FIRST-PLACE FINISH

When you first discover a passion for a place and a subject, you can’t possibly imagine where that passion might take you. When I first set foot on Mexican soil in 2007, for example, there’s no way I could have foreseen my proud moment at the Miami International Boat Show six years later.

A SLICE OF BAJA

When we entered the San Lorenzo Channel, it was as if someone had taken aim at the cockpit with a fire hose. Mike, standing at the wheel in his bright yellow foul-weather jacket, took the brunt as blasts of buckshot spray managed to miss the dodger entirely and hit him full in the face.
